Polish accent at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, where the Oscars gala takes place on the night from Sunday to Monday. Actors Sandra Drzymalska and Mateusz Kościukiewicz, stars of Jerzy Skolimowski’s film “IO” nominated for the award, presented themselves on the champagne carpet. Cinematographer Michał Dymek also appeared in Los Angeles.
On Sunday evening, Polish time, before the official start of the gala, a traditional photo session took place. It was attended by Sandra Drzymalska, Mateusz Kościukiewicz and Lorenzo Zurzolo, who played at Skolimowski’s.
Strong competition
In addition to “IO”, the following films were nominated in the category of the best international film: “In the West without change” (Germany), “Argentina, 1985” (Argentina), “Close” (Belgium) and “Quiet Girl” (Ireland). The latest adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s novel (“All the Way in the West”), directed by Edward Berger, won a total of eight Oscar nominations, including in the category of best picture.
“An international film is defined as a full-length film (over 40 minutes – ed.) produced outside the United States of America and its territories with a predominant (over 50 percent) dialogue in a language other than English. Full-length animated films and documentaries are allowed” – explained in the September communiqué of the Polish Film Institute, when the official Polish candidate for Oscar in this category.
