On Sunday before 10 a.m., a fire broke out in the attic of the Social Welfare Home in Przytock (Pomeranian Voivodeship). Firefighters evacuated residents and staff. One person died.

The fire in the Social Welfare Home in Przytock (Pomeranian Voivodeship) occurred on Sunday before 10 a.m. According to Junior Capt. Piotr Basarab, press spokesman of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in SÅ‚upsk, the fire spread to the attic of the building.

– 16 units of state and volunteer fire brigades from SÅ‚upsk and Bytów counties went to the site. Almost 100 people were evacuated, the firefighter said.

One of the unconscious people was taken outside and, despite resuscitation efforts, died. He is an approximately 50-year-old man.

The police detained one of the residents who – according to their findings – could have started the fire.

– After the fire extinguishing operation is completed, police from the investigation group will begin activities at the scene of the incident, who, under the supervision of the prosecutor, will determine the exact circumstances of the fire – said Junior Asp. Jakub BagiÅ„ski, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in SÅ‚upsk.

The building is currently being extinguished and smoke removed. It will be assessed whether residents will be able to return to rooms on the lower floors of the building.

If necessary, an alternative location will have to be provided by the district office to which the DPS is subordinated.

The Social Welfare Home in the former palace in Przytock is a facility run by the Congregation of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. The home is intended for men, young people and children with profound and significant intellectual disabilities. The facility has 102 places.
