Reuters, citing an interview with an American official, reported that an American soldier was detained while in Russia.
The man was previously stationed in South Korea. He went to Russia on his own for “travel” purposes.

The first news about the officer's arrest was reported by NBC News, which reported that the man was detained because he robbed a woman.
The sergeant was arrested on May 2. He is currently in custodywhere he awaits trial.
CNN, also citing American officials, reported that the US embassy in Moscow she asked about access of the consulate to the soldier and informed his family about the arrest.
So far, the American military has not commented on the matter.

This is not the first American detained in Russia. The detained US citizens include: Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovichwho was arrested in March last year.
Another person was also detained among those detainedMarine – Paul Whelan. The officer was arrested in 2018. According to the government United States both Gershkovich and Whelan were unlawfully detained.
