I asked the president privately and publicly not to discuss such delicate and secret matters publicly, because it does not help Poland, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, referring to President Andrzej Duda's statement regarding Poland's inclusion in the Nuclear Sharing program. – This idea is out of the question – he added.

Sunday is the last day of the working visit of Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski to the USA. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs holds bilateral meetings in Washington with representatives of the American administration and analytical centers. The topics of the talks include Polish-American cooperation, including in the area of security, Russia's aggression against Ukraine and preparations for this year's NATO summit in Washington.

Marcin Wrona, a reporter from “Fakty” TVN, talked to the head of Polish diplomacy on Sunday after the press conference.

Sikorski was asked, among others, about the idea of including Poland in the Nuclear Sharing program and about the presence of nuclear weapons in Poland, which was mentioned by President Andrzej Duda during his visit to Canada.

– I have already asked the president privately and publicly not to discuss such delicate and secret matters in public, because it does not help Poland – said the minister.

When asked whether talks regarding Poland's accession to the Nuclear Sharing program were ongoing, he replied: – From my knowledge, it has already been communicated to the previous government and Mr. President that this idea is out of the question, so I don't understand what's going on.

“This is not an example of good cooperation”

Sikorski was also asked about Andrzej Duda's letter to Donald Tusk. The president wrote in it that “in order to give significant political significance to the Polish presidency, which we will hold of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2025, two summits should be held: the EU – the United States and the European Union – Ukraine.”

– The Presidency of the European Union is the competence of the Minister for European Affairs, but I am not aware that the President has agreed on the matter, either with the Minister for European Affairs, with the Prime Minister, or with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As he emphasized, “the constitution clearly states who conducts foreign policy in Poland and with whom the president coordinates his statements.” – This was missing here – he said.

Sikorski noted that he learned about the president's idea from social media. When asked what he thought about it, he replied: – The president has his own office with a large budget, so maybe he wants to organize these summits using the resources of his office.

– The case is a surprise to us. In the government, we are discussing what the Polish presidency should look like, but the president has not agreed this with anyone, neither the European Union, nor our permanent representative office, nor the government. This is not an example of good cooperation, Sikorski said.
