A lost moose was running around the streets of Bemowo, Warsaw. It was necessary to temporarily euthanize the animal in order to safely transport it to the forest. Police officers participated in the action.
Early on Wednesday morning, the Bemowo police station received an unusual report. It was about a moose that was walking through the streets.
– Initially, the police followed him to make sure he did not pose a threat on the road. In the meantime, they called a veterinarian and a hunter to the scene. It turned out to be necessary to “put down” the animal so that it could safely return to the forest – describes Marta Sulowska from the Warsaw IV District Police Headquarters.
Every minute counted
The police turned out to be essential when transporting the moose, first to a specially adapted car, and then escorting the vehicle with the animal into the forest because in such situations every minute counts. The moose regained consciousness and returned to its natural habitat.
– Currently, the sight of wild animals in the city is not surprising. This does not mean, however, that they are familiar with the sight of humans. A scared animal may be dangerous towards a person who tries to help it. In such a situation, the services that have greater opportunities to provide the necessary help to the animal should be notified – concluded Sulowska.
