Hostels and heating centers for people in the homeless crisis

Warsaw has nearly 1,400 places that provide shelter to people in the homeless crisis.

Since the beginning of December, a new facility has been operating at Kupiecka Street for 150 people in need. There are also three night shelters in the city: at 39 Kaczorowa Street, 15 Kupiecka Street and 53 Myƛliborska Street, which can be used by anyone in need from 6:00 pm to 8:00 am. Meals are also served in the facilities – a warm supper and breakfast.

There is also a heating plant at each of these dormitories. In addition, on behalf of the city, Caritas of the Diocese of Warsaw and Prague runs a heating plant at 111/113 Grochowska Street, which is open seven days a week. There is also a diner and a bathhouse.

Help of specialists

A special city bus (MPP) also runs along the routes where people in the homeless crisis are most likely to be found. The bus provides transport between Warsaw’s aid points (heating stations, eating places, bathhouses, medical points, counseling points). The MPP team includes street workers, as well as psychologists and psychotherapists. They cooperate with the Municipal Police, e.g. when delivering hot meals to people staying in the so-called non-residential places.

As the town hall points out in the communiqué, on behalf of the city, the Medical Aid Point is run by the We Are Hope Association at 172 Wolska Street. The clinic is open from Monday to Friday, from from 9:00 to 15:00. It offers assistance of doctors of various specialties, assistance of a psychologist, dental procedures, nursing procedures, diagnostics and laboratory tests, as well as the possibility of consulting a social worker.

In turn, the Penitentiary Association “Patronat” at 259A Grochowska Street runs a laundry. Both facilities and homeless people with the appropriate referral can use the services free of charge.

For over a year, the Warsaw Integration Center “Integracyjna Warszawa” has been the municipal coordinator of placing people in the homeless crisis in institutions.
