Belarus is a neighboring country, but a different world. In the summer of 2020, the media circulated calm but moving images. After the rigged elections, people took to the streets. They organized themselves in such a way that they did not even disrupt street traffic. Lukashenko brutally suppressed the protests. Lukashenko criticizes the West and Ukraine, reverses concepts, blames the victims. Belarusian companies supply Russia with parts for tanks and armored vehicles, and the dictator of Belarus is surprised that Poland is arming itself.
Why are they so armed? – asks Alyaksandr Lukashenko, speaking about Poland. The Belarusian dictator argues that our country should not fear an attack from the East.
– Why do they need this at all? We do not intend to fight them. They should not expect any aggressive actions against the Polish state and society from the territory of Belarus, argues Lukashenko. These words were spoken during the All-Belarusian People's Congress, another façade institution modeled on Soviet times, which is intended to legitimize Lukashenko's rule, which is not recognized in the West.
Lukashenko: It will be an apocalypse
The dictator calms down, and then threatens with an atom. In his speech, he talked about the new defense concept, Russian nuclear warheads on the territory of Belarus, the alleged threat from NATO and what Vladimir Putin might do in the worst case scenario.
– If things develop in a way that threatens the internal situation in Russia, Russia will use the entire arsenal at its disposal. It will be an apocalypse, says Lukashenko. According to Lukashenko, the West is seeking to weaken the national identity of Russians, Belarusians and all Slavs, which may lead to their decline.
He was critical of American aid to Kiev. He called Ukraine a drug addict, dependent on Western support. – The United States' allocation of $60 billion for the war is the most important factor in the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. And the deployment of long-range missiles in Ukraine is very dangerous, says Lukashenko.
Lukashenko criticizes American aid because he is afraid, explained Franciszak Viachorka, chief advisor to the leader of the Belarusian opposition, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, on TVN24 BiS. – This is also an unpleasant signal for Lukashenko. He understands that the stronger Ukraine is and the weaker Putin is, the faster the Lukashenko regime will fall, he said.
“Lukashenko is making money from this war”
Lukashenko called on the authorities of Russia and Ukraine to start peace talks as if he was not a party to the conflict. Franciszak Wiaczorka reminds that Belarus still actively supports the aggression of Putin's Russia. – Belarusian enterprises are transformed, they supply parts for tanks and armored vehicles to the Russian army. Lukashenko is making money from this war, he is making money from the blood of Ukrainians, he says.
Alexander Lukashenko further strengthened his power during the façade ceremony. He declared himself chairman of the All-Belarusian People's Congress – following the example of Soviet party general secretaries – essentially ensuring himself power for life.
During the congress, the head of the Belarusian KGB accused Lithuania of drone attacks. Vilnius quickly responded that this was “nonsense.”
