Downpours hit northern Argentina. In the city of Corrientes on the Parana River, 300 liters of water per square meter fell in just a few hours, causing serious flooding. According to the authorities, it was a disaster of unprecedented scale.
On Sunday morning, it swept through northern Argentina storm. The phenomenon brought heavy rainfall, which quickly led to the overflow of sewage systems.
“Unprecedented natural disaster”
According to the authorities of the city of Corrientes, located on the Parana River, rainfall of 300 liters of water per square meter was recorded there in a few hours. The storm was accompanied by strong winds that tore off roofs and damaged power lines.
From the early morning hours, the streets turned into rivers, and water also entered houses and public buildings. Footage of people floating in pontoons on the streets and wading through waist-deep water appeared on social media. Bus transport in the city was suspended and school classes were also canceled.

According to forecasts from the Argentine Weather Warning System, storm warnings will remain in force in the northern part of the country on Monday. Level two alerts were issued in places on a three-level, ascending scale. As expected, the weather should calm down a bit in the Corrientes area – no new warnings apply there.
