Deblin. Two young men took the cross from the church and later destroyed and abandoned it. They pleaded guilty

Two young people, aged 21 and 23, from Dęblin (Lubelskie Voivodeship), took a cross attached to one of the churches and carried it around the city. Later they damaged it and abandoned it in one of the streets. The men pleaded guilty. They will be responsible for insulting the object of religious worship.

On Monday (January 2), after 10 p.m., the police received a report about the theft of a wooden cross attached to the wall of one of the churches in Dęblin.

“The theft was dealt with by the criminals from the Dęblin police station. The collected materials led the officers to identify the perpetrators, who turned out to be two young residents of Dęblin, aged 21 and 23” – informs the staff assistant Agnieszka Marchlak from the Poviat Police Headquarters in Ryki.

Both men were arrested. They have already heard charges for insulting the object of religious worship. They pleaded guilty.

“They took the cross off the wall of the church and then carried it around the city. Eventually, after it was damaged, they abandoned it on one of the streets of Dęblin. They couldn’t explain the reasons for their crime” – emphasizes the policewoman.

They had previous records for various crimes

Uniforms found a devastated cross at Grunwaldzka Street. It was lying near a metal container.

Both the 21-year-old and the 23-year-old have previously been charged with various offences. They face up to two years in prison.
