On the one hand, we should keep seniors in the best condition and health as long as possible, and on the other hand, in a situation where we already have elderly people, which is often associated with a huge risk of dependence, we must respond with a whole range of services – she said in ” Facts after Facts” by Marzena Okła-Drewnowicz, Minister of Senior Policy.

The guest of “Fakty po Faktach” was the Minister for Senior Policy, Marzena Okła Drewnowicz. – Seniors can be very active, (but) there may be those who need support from third parties. So the needs of seniors are very great and we have to start senior policy from the moment a person retires retirementand even earlier, she said.

– The longer we keep a person on the labor market, the better it actually is for them. Everyone has choice, we are not changing the retirement age, but the point is to help people be active in the labor market. Of course, this is very important, because remember that life expectancy is getting longer. So, on the one hand, we should keep seniors in the best condition and health as long as possible, and on the other hand, in a situation where we already have elderly people, which is often associated with a huge risk of dependence, we must respond with a whole range of services – she said .

She added that “according to data from the Central Statistical Office, in 2030 there will be 10.8 million seniors over 60 years of age, so this is really a great challenge for us.” – This is a challenge not only for seniors themselves, but also for those who are in their prime and working, because that is what senior care is all about. It must be based on solidarity between generations and programs that will have these elements of solidarity between generations will be one of the programs that we will introduce – said Okła-Drewnowicz.

One of the ideas of the new ministry is the “senior voucher”. – The idea is that thanks to such a voucher we can launch services to provide as many services as possible. Today, either the commune finances services as much as it needs, or we actually have a gray zone. The idea is to help working people who care for loved ones in their place of residence, but do not actually live together, to help them by granting them such a voucher for the organization of care in their place of residence by local governments, she explained.

She added that the program will initially cover people aged 75 and over, and is scheduled to start next year.

Okła-Drewnowicz: we will maintain the 13th and 14th pensions, we will introduce the second indexation

The new government is also to maintain the payment of the 13th and 14th pensions. – Yes, seniors received “thirteens” and “fourteens” and will continue to receive them. The problem was and is that the “thirteenth” and “fourteenth year” pensions are actually one-off benefits that are not included in the basis of the pension, which means that when there is a large inflationWhen there is another indexation, these amounts are not included in this indexation, said the Minister for Senior Policy.

– That is why we propose, and this will certainly be reflected in the budget, a second indexation, so in a situation where the indexation is above five percent at the end of June of a given year, there will be a second indexation in the autumn. This means that the value of these pensions does not decrease, because the second indexation will be included in the pension base and the next one will take this indexation into account, she added.

She also announced that she would create an inter-ministerial team, which will include representatives of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy.
