Two grazing moose, including one with an unusual white color, were filmed by Reporterka 24 near Giżycko (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship). – This is the first recorded observation of a moose with this color in history. Therefore, it is a very rare specimen – said Sławomir Kowalczyk from the Giżycko Forest District. We received the recording on Kontakt 24.
Mrs. Anna captured two moose on the video, including one with a white coat. The video we received on Contact 24comes from the area of Giżycko (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship).
– I was coming home and they were just eating in this place. The moose were very relaxed and paid no attention to me at all. I had seen them there three times before, but this time I managed to film them up close. I was surprised that they were very calm, even curious about me, said Mrs. Anna. She added that she was delighted with the color of both individuals. -Albino moose usually have red eyes, but this one didn't. The second one had gray discoloration. It's a beautiful metaphor for yin and yang. I was amazed by the diversity in nature with this beautiful landscape in the background, she added.
The unique color of the moose
– According to the knowledge of the employees of the Giżycko Forest District in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, this is the first recorded observation of a moose with this color in history. Therefore, it is a very rare specimen – said Sławomir Kowalczyk from the Giżycko Forest District, who is responsible for contact with the media. As he explained, it is not an albino. – The video shows the animal from quite a distance, which makes it difficult to look at the animal's eye. A characteristic feature of albinos, apart from their unusual color, are red eyes. The observed individual does not have red eyes. So we don't think it's an albino moose. A veterinarian could say more about the unusual color of a moose, as there may be many reasons for this appearance, he added. As experts suspect, the animals may be siblings. – The pair of moose in the video are most likely siblings born in the spring of 2023. So far, they have been staying with their mother, but spring is the time of birth of a new generation of moose and the mother stopped caring for the one-year-old, fully independent moose – he admitted. – Moose spend most of their time alone, in the video the difference of one of the siblings does not prevent the other from being together. Therefore, there is a high probability that next spring we will see our hero in a group of other elks looking for food in the surrounding fields – added Sławomir Kowalczyk.
