“Great potential” for development

A representative of the Woolworth network told TVN24 Biznes that the choice of the Polish market was based on its size and economic conditions. “Poland is a large country with about 40 million inhabitants. The development of Poland against the background of the European Union is exemplary – the economic strength of the country is growing, unemployment is low” – she mentioned.

Schönfeld also sees “great potential” in terms of business development opportunities in Poland, especially in the retail sector. The success of discount chains is to prove this. “It shows that people are open to such offers” – she assessed. She emphasized that it is Woolworth’s low prices that will tempt the Polish customer.

Woolworth’s offer includes textiles, home furnishings, electronics, decorative items and toys. The chain has over 500 stores in Germany. In the medium term, the company wants to create a chain of 5,000 department stores in Europe.
