In the town of Kruglovo, located on the shores of the Baltic Sea west of Königsberg, a huge landfill fire broke out. The fetid smoke reached as far as the Tri-City.
The Russian Ministry of Civil Defense, Emergency Situations and Liquidation of the Consequences of Natural Disasters informed about the landfill fire. The Russians assured that firefighters “do not leave their post day or night” – they put out the fire during the day and control the situation after dark.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, the fire broke out on June 12. According to local authorities, the cause of the fire was “extremely dry weather”, and Dmitry Lyskov, the head of the press service, reportedly said that the event was of a natural nature.
The independent Belarusian news website Nexta reported on Tuesday that the fire had taken up about 5,000 square meters. So far, according to information provided by the Russian ministry, the area occupied by fire has been reduced to 1,000 square meters.
Smoke perceptible in the Tri-City
The fire also affects the inhabitants of Poland. Kruglovo is located about 100 kilometers in a straight line from Gdańsk. The trimiasto.pl portal reports that the smell of burning plastic can be felt in the cities along the coast.
So far, the Polish services have not commented on the case or issued any recommendations for the residents of the Tri-City. IMWM reports that currently the wind in the Tri-City blows from the north-east, i.e. exactly from the side of Kruglovo, at a speed of about 20 kilometers per hour.
